Beyond Pesticides
beyondpesticides.org
Beyond Pesticides (formerly National Coalition Against the Misuse of Pesticides) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., which works with allies in protecting public health and the environment to lead the transition to a world free of toxic pesticides. The founders, who established Beyond Pesticides as a nonprofit membership organization in 1981, felt that without the existence of such an organized, national network, local, state and national pesticide policy would become, under chemical industry pressure, increasingly unresponsive to public health and environmental concerns.
Beyond Pesticides believes that people must have a voice in decisions that affect them directly. We believe decisions should not be made for us by chemical companies or by decision makers who either do not have all of the facts or refuse to consider them.

Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County
monroecountyhabitat.org
At Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County we build strength, stability, self-reliance and shelter–the only thing we give away is an opportunity. Our mission is to eliminate poverty housing by building decent, affordable homes in partnership with qualifying families.
Our work in Monroe County has a special urgency as 1 in 5 (22%) people live in poverty. Monroe County is the least affordable place to live in the state of Indiana—an employee earning minimum wage must work 100 hours per week every week of the year to afford a two-bedroom apartment.
All who qualify for the Habitat program do so based on the same three criteria: need for housing, ability to pay, willingness to partner. Each adult member living in a Habitat home must put in 250 hours of volunteering, called sweat equity, prior to closing on their house.
Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, our houses are sold to future homeowners and financed with affordable loans. As our partner families pay back their affordable mortgage, we are able to offer future families an opportunity for home ownership making an impact for additional families.

Humane Society of South Mississippi
hssm.org
The Humane Society of South Mississippi (HSSM) is the largest animal welfare organization in the state of Mississippi. In 2019, HSSM cared for over 7,000 homeless pets.
Since our incorporation in 1952, HSSM has been committed to ending pet overpopulation on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. HSSM is an open-admissions shelter and turns no pet away based on health, age, or behavioral status. Oftentimes our open-admissions status in a community with a disproportionately high number of homeless pets leads to needless euthanasia of adoptable pets in our shelter HSSM has now vowed to change this.
In January of 2012, HSSM’s Board of Directors adopted the most progressive initiative ever undertaken by our organization. This initiative, entitled Countdown to Zero, aims to eliminate the euthanasia of all healthy and treatable pets in our community. Our dream is to make South Mississippi a truly humane community where every pet lives out his/her life in a loving home. When HSSM achieves this goal, we will be the first community in the Deep South to achieve this milestone.

CEDARS
cedarskids.org
Helping children who face seemingly insurmountable odds is the important work of CEDARS. Founded in 1947 by the Reverend Charles and Alberta Danner, CEDARS continues their vision today to create a place where children can “experience a real childhood and begin planning for the future.”
That simple act of kindness over 70 years ago has resulted in thousands of children building new family lives. The Danners’ passion still lives on through our work today as we offer young people safe shelter — and the skills to adapt to a quickly changing world.
Today’s reality is harsh, and the challenges disturbing. All homes today are not safe for every child. Poverty, drug use, mental illness, criminal activity, and neglect place children at extreme risk.
CEDARS continues to respond, giving hope to youth in need and direction to families struggling to stay together.
It is the mission of CEDARS to help children achieve safety, stability, and enduring family relationships.

Nevada Humane Society
nevadahumanesociety.org
Nevada Humane Society (NHS) is a charitable, non-profit organization and the only open-admission, no-kill shelter in the state of Nevada. Incorporated in 1932, it was originally created to address the suffering of local stray animals. In 2007, our Board of Directors changed the mission of the organization to one of lifesaving, promoting animal welfare while finding homes and providing care for homeless pets in Northern Nevada. In 2014, NHS expanded to include Carson City. In October 2016, we moved into a brand new shelter in Carson City, which will increase the number of lives saved in Northern Nevada. It’s an exciting time for homeless pets and animal lovers, as more than 100,000 animals have been placed into loving homes since our lifesaving mission began in 2007, and we are only continuing to grow.
We accomplish our lifesaving by providing quality care and finding homes for homeless pets while offering a variety of programs to benefit the public and animals. We are dependent upon donations and do not receive funding from government agencies or national animal welfare groups.

centralpafoodbank.org
The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, an affiliate of Feeding America and Feeding Pennsylvania, serves 27 counties across Pennsylvania. For more than 35 years there have been many positive changes to the organization, including expansions to both healthy food hub locations in Harrisburg and Williamsport and capacity investments in hundreds of our local Partner Agencies to better serve many communities.
Originally, the Food Bank was located in a converted movie theater in Steelton. In 2012, the Food Bank’s Harrisburg Healthy Food Hub underwent a second expansion, adding 28,000 sq. ft. onto the existing warehouse giving it a total of 75,000 sq. ft.
In 2002, a second Healthy Food Hub was added in Williamsport, to better serve the northern tier of our territory. In 2016, the Williamsport location underwent an expansion transforming it from a 17,000 sq. ft. facility to 30,000 sq. ft., which is critical to achieving the Bold Goal. By expanding, the Food Bank is able to distribute more healthy food to distant rural areas in particular and provide more fresh and local food as well as creating a space for unique educational and volunteer opportunities.
INSIGHT
in-sight.org
We envision a world in which people are valued for who they are, not for what they see.
Our mission is to inspire confidence, build skills and empower people who are blind and visually impaired to become fully integrated, equally valued members of society by providing diverse services that produce opportunities and choices.
Our history goes back to 1905 when a group of churches in Providence began offering luncheons for Rhode Island residents who were blind. In 1925, the volunteer group officially incorporated as the Rhode Island Association for the Blind and opened the Outlook Shop on Eddy Street in Providence employing a small handful of blind men to cane chairs.
In March 1938 Helen Keller came to Providence to raise awareness about the needs of people who are blind, addressing 2,700 people at the former Metropolitan Theater. That same year the Association expanded its chair caning business by employing people who were blind to create greeting cards, baskets, jewelry, and rugs which were sold to the general public.
In 1945, the Rhode Island Association for the Blind purchased the historic Arcade building in downtown Providence for $365,000, saving it from immenent demolition. The Association occupied a store on the second floor of the building, renting the rest of the building’s space as a way to raise operating income.
In 1959, Dr. Frank DiChiarra opened one of the first low vision clinics in the country at the Arcade building. The new service outfitted people with lighting and magnifying devices that helped them to maximize their limited vision.
In 1965, having outgrown the Arcade space, the Association moved to a much larger building on Broad Street in Providence. Along with an expansion into the jewelry assembly and sewing trades, the organization also expanded its low vision clinic and added an array of daily living classes.
In 1986, the Rhode Island Association for the Blind merged with the Rhode Island Radio Reading Service, forming INSIGHT. The merged agencies sold the Arcade building and the Broad Street building and purchased a new building at 43 Jefferson Boulevard in Warwick, which is our current location.
Our agency currently features a fully equipped radio station, training apartment, classrooms, a chair caning shop, and a low vision clinic, and a store. We annually serve more than 1,000 people each year through a wide variety of quality programs and services.

Located in a warehouse just off Northport Drive and Packers Avenue, The River is surrounded by low-income neighborhoods and subsidized senior housing—exactly where we’re needed the most. We also provide a mobile lunch program for children and teens in low income neighborhoods surrounding the food pantry. Nutritious packed lunches are distributed in the neighborhoods on weekends and other non-school days.
More than just meals, The River provides a warm and welcoming family atmosphere where everyone is treated with respect, encouraged to find the support they need, and given the opportunity to share what they can with others.
The River serves over 1,000 Dane County families per week, sharing over 50 thousand pounds of food every seven days, or about 2.7 million pounds of food each year. Over $1 million worth of clothing, furniture and household items are distributed annually. We also serve nearly 800 hot meals each week and currently distribute over 400 mobile packed lunches on each non-school day.
In 2018, The River received 30,025 family visits. Approximately 34% of those served by The River are children and 9% are seniors. In 2018, The River provided 81,904 packed lunches to children and teens with MUNCH, The River’s mobile lunch program.

Reliable access to sufficient food is an essential element in building strong and vibrant communities, stable family units, a willing well-educated workforce and independence for the elderly.
Fighting Hunger ~ Feeding Hope is Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies’ primary food distribution program serving hunger-relief agencies statewide. Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies is currently operated by the Food Bank of the Rockies in Denver, Colorado.
Over a decade ago, Food Bank of the Rockies Board of Directors made the decision to create a food bank in Wyoming since we were the only state in the nation without one.
