plaque dedicated to Pvt. John Marvin Steele on Monday, Nov. 11. The World War II paratrooper from Metropolis became
known worldwide for landing on the pinnacle of the church tower in Sainte Mere Eglise, the first French village to be
liberated by the United States Army during the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944.
